LEDs are becoming more and more common in today’s equipment and finally a manufacturer has put them to good use.

The LEDLamp is Allen and Heath’s latest offering and it comes in the form of a small gooseneck lamp. On first inspection it looks like any normal lamp, flexible and long. It is only on closer inspection that the lamp become slightly more complex, the lamp has 4 bright white LEDs. On top of the lamp you will also find a small rotary control that controls the brightness of the lamp.

The lamp is designed to compliment Allen and Heath’s vast range of mixer but will be equally suited to any mixer and even worked well on the Zero88 FatFrog I used it with. The LEDs are just the right brightness for reading scripts under and are not too bright that they can be seen as a distraction.  In complete darkness on full brightness the LEDLamp will easily illuminate a MixWizard 14:4:2 console, the LEDLamp will fulfill all of your requirements.

The downside however is the price, at £60 the LEDLamp does not come cheap and there are plenty of other products using bulbs that do a similar job for around a third of the price. The price however is justified by Allen and Heath’s legendary build quality and this lamp is no exception. The lamp feels solid and the addition of the LEDs, which apparently last a life time, makes the price almost justifiable.

Overall I would recommend this product to everyone. There are many cheaper alternatives available that could easily carry out this job, but with Allen and Heath you are buying reliability. I know that I would rather spend a little bit extra and be safe in the knowledge that it will always work. Do yourself a favour, chuck your old gooseneck away and get a LEDLamp.
