The new Martin Roboscan Pro 918 is an incredibly advanced light with superbly bright optics due to the fact it uses a HMI 575 Discharge bulb.

The mirror motion is almost instant allowing you to create mid air laser like effect. The Gobo, Colour and effects selection are just as instant. The fixture its self has 2 colour wheels with 9 replaceable filters plus open and split positions, it has 2 gobo wheels one a static gobo wheel the other being a rotating gobo wheel, gobo rotation is indexible and variable speed. The fixture also has a dimmer allowing you to select the brightness of the light, also there is an extremely fast strobing function up to 23 Hz.

For effects the roboscan has a 3 facet prism allowing you to triple the image and then even rotate the 3 images around the centre. There is also an Iris which is an effect in its own right allowing you to make the beam bigger and smaller. The unit also allows you to focus the light remotely via DMX which can be a pain when programming pre programmed shows.

As you can see the light is brimming with all the latest technology and functions, how many of those functions would actually be used is anther thing. The Martin Roboscan Pro 918 retails at about £2000 which is not cheap in my opinion. I cant help but feel that its just another one of those sad cases where you are paying for the name and not the product.

Final thoughts are that it is a good light with all the functions you could ever want, but I personally don't think its worth £2000
