The LC2412 is an affordable 24 channel DMX lighting desk from Behringer. It can store up to 10 banks of 120 scenes, comprehensive audio triggering to bass or frequency, and two additional accessory channels for controlling foggers or strobes.

DMX output is on a 5 pin XLR, but this desk also has an analogue 0-10v output for 12 dimming channels and two accessory channels. As the specifications state, this desk appears to be fairly well constructed and should provide plenty of trouble free use if taken care of.

This would be a very nice desk apart from a couple of issues. Firstly, 24 channels is a bit limiting if you want to control intelligent lighting with this desk. You can link together two LC2412's through the MIDI interface, but at the cost of buying two desks you may as well buy a single one with more channels.

Secondly, and this is a major problem, the A/D converters on the faders don't seem to be very accurate. One minute it could sample the value for a channel as 200, and suddenly it might jump up to 210 for no apparent reason. This causes mirrors and colour/gobo wheels to 'jitter' when using the desk in live mode, but isn't a problem when you are running a show from memory. If you only want to use conventionals, you probably wouldn't notice a small change in brightness.

Once you have got to grips with the features of the desk it should be fairly easy to use, although I did find it a bit of a pain to get a chase sequence up and running.

Overall, this desk should be fine if you only want to control conventionals, but I would not recommend it for controlling moving lights, the bad A/D converters make it near impossible to accurately position the mirror of a scanner.
