Turin is preparing for the Olympic games, with the opening ceremony only 1 day ahead, all involved are working hard to get Turin ready in time.

On gold medal plaza, a silver Dome is slowly progressing and, even in its unfinished state, looks magnificent.

The Olympic Winter games, which will be held in Turin from February 10th till 26th, have generated a lot of work for Italian Prolyte distributor Decima and their client Ital Stage.

Ital Stage, partly based on consultancy from Prolyte, has developed the main construction for the silver Dome. The stage structure is a mix of steel and aluminium. For the middle grid, Prolyte S52SV truss is used. For the main grid B100RV truss, either from steel and aluminium is used, combined with S36R truss, which will act as supporting structure for an inflatable on top of the stage.

The inflatable structure provides a flow of heated air to prevent snow accumulation on top of the roof structure.

The Dome is a circular roof structure with an overall height of 22,8 m. and a clearance of 17m. The structure has a cantilever of 16 m. at the front, which is supported by S36V truss and by guy-wires attached to the middle tower. A huge video screen of 29 x 10 m. will be hung underneath this grid.

Two ground support systems of  ST towers with B100V truss stand within the Dome to support the video wall and sound system, further the Dome is flanked by 2 Prolyte Rigging towers for a delay sound system.

The cantilever construction was tested with a test load of over 12 ton, which resulted in a deflection of only 3,9 centimetres. This is an incredibly low figure for a construction with these measurements.
