Digital Print Centre – with whom Milos has worked on many previous projects - approached them with a basic brief, explains project manager Milan Kolousek. They had a quick turnaround time and needed a fairly complex design to accommodate various graphics and AV displays along with some sound and lighting equipment. Above all, the client wanted a structure that looked aesthetically stunning. “This was the challenge” says Kolousek, “Our technical department did a good job to deliver all the drawings from a complete blank piece of paper to the final product in so short a time”. The initial design also underwent several modifications before the final version was signed off by Shell. Once they had the green light, the Milos design and technical teams came up with a stylish, streamlined stand measuring 15 x 15 metres overall, 4.2 metres high and based on a 7 metre diameter central circular hub. The stand was constructed from Milos M222 Quarto series trussing elements, which is a standard Milos product. This is a parameter that was absolutely necessary because of the tight timeframe between the plans being finalised and the stand needing to be delivered to Doha. M222 Quarto is renowned for its light weight, good load capacities and quality aesthetics. It is also a highly adaptable trussing system as was proved again in this project, as it was used to make a completely bespoke structure The circular hub was supported by 4 legs. Three different sized angled sections interlocked with this to make up the stand, each with its own independent leg supports, giving different areas for graphic presentations, walk-throughs, seating areas, etc. Once completed, the stand was air freighted from the Czech Republic to Doha as 40 separate pieces. Milan Kolousek and a team of 3 Milos engineers went out to built it on the conference site at the Sheraton Hotel in Doha. Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, the 6th Doha Conference on Natural Gas united industry leaders to discuss global trends, technical developments, marketing, economics and geopolitics involved with natural gas projects.
