Kinane has worked with HSL on many other shows including the first series of "Dancing on Ice", and he once again wanted them on the case providing the show's specialist lighting requirements. The project was handled for HSL by Sean McGlone. The competition was part of the Premier League's ‘Creating Chances' initiative. It united football legends, celebrities and fans in a 7-a-side knock-out contest that saw Middleborough triumph 3-1 over West Ham in the final, in the process winning a £100,000 donation for their favorite charity. The moving lights were all Robe - consisting of 30 ColorSpot 1200E ATs, 32 ColorWash 1200E ATs and 20 ColorSpot 575E ATs, all of which were hung on trussing rigged above the 60m x 40m pitch. They were used for numerous effects - the washes covered the entire pitch in different colours, while the Spots were used for gobo projections and other eye-candy style effects for the team entrances and exits which looked particular good on camera. HSL owns the largest hire stock of Robe units in Europe, with a fleet of well over 1100 fixtures. The reliability and rugged build quality of the units makes them ideal tools for a myriad of different jobs and form the backbone of a very busy rental house. Meanwhile, Robe's features, functionality and reliability have become popular with LDs from all disciplines. The 144 JTE PixelLine 1044s were all rigged above the audience seating stands in the horizontal position off a series of vertical scaff bars - with 7 fixtures per section of scaff tube. These were used for flashing, strobing and high energy chase effects when teams came on and off the pitch and for dramatic wide sweeping looks in and out of the audience shots. HSL also supplied the new I-Pix BB Wash Lights, once again purchased in quantity, and were employed to flood the whole pitch, many individual PAR cans, large quantities of 6 way par bars, ETC Source Four Zooms and Robert Juliat Ivanhoe follow spots, plus six 48-way Avolites ART dimmers. The moving and digital lights were operated by Ross Williams using a WholeHog III. The BB's are also new additions to HSL's hire stock. The company has invested heavily in LED and digital lighting technology over the last 2 years, and the BB's are ultra powerful, bright, LED wash lights/blinder units that are perfect for the diverse range of shows for which HSL caters. Each BB Washlight features four dismountable 2 ft battens fitted with 4 RGB cells each using a custom RGB LED and a special optical arrangement to deliver a blended source of exceptionally high power, and are particularly impressive when run in multiples. The units each produce an astonishing 17,600 lumens! However in practice, with additive colour mixing (the basis of all LED devices) they consume and deliver only the chosen colour gamut with absolutely no wastage involved in the filtering process. Each batten can be run as an individual unit with 16 bit control and super fast colour strobing sequences can be achieved. Film & TV Services supplied all studio lighting and generators, with UK Rigging supplying the trussing. Wiring up all the fixtures supplied by HSL consumed an incredible 8 Km of 2.5mm Socapex cable alone, plus thousands of metres of mains and data cable. McGlone, comments, "Since receiving the I-pix BB's into our hire inventory the units have proved to be a great hit, additional units have been out touring with Starsailor and Roisin Murphy".
