The famous Operatic Pop Quartet Il Divo are currently on their third worldwide tour promoting their new CD, The Promise.

Formed five years ago by Simon Cowell, (currently on XFactor, Britain's Got Talent) the band keeps on collecting multi platinum CDs and continues to be highly successful all over the world.

Lighting Director Dom Smith, one of the first Diamond 4 users, is proudly operating the lights with his favourite Avolites console on this massive worldwide tour 2009.

The face of Opera has definitely changed with the four singers who left the drama and the classical music behind.

The dynamic voices of Carlos the Spanish Baritone, David the American Tenor, Sébastien the French Pop Singer and Urs the Swiss Tenor, blend together to create an amazing mix of Opera and Pop.

The band scored 36 number one chart positions in 26 countries with their first three albums: Il Divo, Ancora and Siempre.

Now after one year off, they are proudly coming back with their new album and The Promise reached number 1 in the charts in November; Il Divo truly have become one of the most successful groups in the world.

The power and flexibility needed for such a huge show encouraged their Lighting Director, Dom Smith, to choose the Diamond 4, commenting that ‘it is the best console to use for the job'.

The strongest feature of the Diamond 4 for him still remains the fixture exchange facility. He emphasizes ‘there are times on the worldwide tour where we have to use local production and I truly appreciate being able to easily swap fixtures in and out without having to re-program the whole show'.

By working in different venues, the main challenge remains fitting the rig into small venues. Dom explains, ‘we have an unusual B-stage set up which means the rig extends a long way into the arena.

The rig is basically one large necklace shape, which means it's a whole series of curved structures.' The Varilite rig, designed by Nick Whitehouse and Bryan Leitch includes Varilite 500 Washes 80V, VL3000 Spots, VL3500 Washes, VL5 Washes, Cell Molephays and Showtec Sunstrips. In addition they also have 20 Elements Labs Versatube SD which are all controlled by a Hippocritter attached to the Diamond 4.

Il Divo are currently in North America until the end of July and will then be moving on to Japan, Australia and the Far East in the autumn. The tour runs until the end of the year with the band singing to perfection, the crew on top of their job and the fans queuing to see the show.
